In Your Own Eyes, You're Always Coming Up Short.
Whose voice is behind all those "shoulds"?
Christian therapy for women in Pennsylvania, integrating biblical principles with evidence-based counseling techniques.
- Specialized in women's emotional and spiritual well-being
- CBT tools and narrative therapy alongside scripture
- God acknowledged as the ultimate healer
- Three phases, paced to your story
You Can't Stop Beating Yourself Up.
Someone at church asks how you're doing. You say "fine," and inside, the "shoulds" are shouting.
So you decide it's yours to carry, and you keep it bottled up.
Underneath the effort sits a fear you haven't said to anyone: that you're failing God, too.
As Hard As You Try, the Loop Wins.
Every fix you reach for becomes one more "should": trust deeper, surrender more fully, be grateful, forgive.
You "should" have it all figured out by now.
That gap, between what you believe God says about you and what you say to yourself, has a cause.
Here's the truth: you are doing the best you can, and your worth is God-given.
Each "Should" Is a Line From a Story.
The self-condemning loop runs on a story you learned about what a good Christian woman is supposed to be.
Trying harder obeys that story, so effort keeps feeding the loop.
Using CBT tools, narrative therapy, and biblical truth, you and I challenge unhelpful beliefs and reshape your story toward hope, identity, and wholeness.
Biblical Wisdom and Clinical Tools, Working Side by Side.
As the story underneath changes, the "shoulds" lose some of their volume. Here's what I help women move toward.
- Replace self-condemning thoughts with God's truth about your identity
- Practice coping skills for the moments a "should" hits
- Rebuild connection with yourself, others, and God
- Trade isolation for honest community and support
Those shifts come through three phases, each one building on the last.
Three Phases Toward Hope, Identity, and Wholeness.
Explore Your Story
You tell your story at your own pace, and I listen for the narratives shaping your anxiety, depression, and self-worth. By this point, each "should" has a name and a history.
Reframe and Renew
You and I take the "shoulds" one by one and trace where each belief came from. Then the story gets rewritten with scripture's account of who you are. Old beliefs start losing their authority.
Integrate and Empower
In daily life, you practice new insights and skills on the ordinary days when the old loop tries to start. Confidence grows from a renewed sense of worth rooted in faith.

What clients say
I have been working with Candis since I was about 15 years old, and I'm about to turn 26. We both decided I had gotten to a place where I no longer needed sessions. After having my first child a little over a year ago, she was ready when I needed help tackling postpartum anxiety and depression. Talking with Candis takes the stigma away from getting mental health services. Can NOT recommend her enough!!!
Heritage of Hope, specifically Candis, has been so incredibly helpful for me through thick and thin. I found my safe space with Candis and she has helped me through some difficult, heartbreaking and especially enlightening life events. Thank goodness for Candis and Heritage of Hope; I continue to grow, hopefully into a better person, with her caring guidance and trusted counseling.
While I've valued supporting my mental health for over 10 years, it wasn't until 2018 that I was blessed to find the best fit for me: Candis Ubiles. From the beginning, she has embraced evidenced-based approaches intertwined with resting on The Lord. Her kindness, love, and dedication to her practice is evident during every session and she always reminds me of who I am in Christ. I am so thankful for her wisdom and guidance!
I've prayed and tried harder. What would counseling add?
Counseling adds tools for the belief underneath each "should," so it can be examined and replaced with God's truth about your identity. Prayer keeps its place, and your effort gets a direction.
Is there room here for doubt and hard questions?
Doubt tends to arrive tangled up with the "shoulds," so it belongs in counseling too. Bring your questions about God as they are.
How many sessions will this take?
Length follows your story, including how long the loop has run and how many beliefs are tied to it. At each phase, I'll check in with you so the pace stays yours.
Will I learn skills for the hard moments?
When a "should" hits in the checkout line, you need something to do with it. I teach CBT tools and coping skills grounded in biblical wisdom for that moment.
How do scripture and CBT tools fit together?
CBT tools slow a "should" down enough to question it. Scripture then speaks to the woman underneath, the one with God-given value who is doing the best she can.
